Finding the right skincare products for my sensitive skin has always been an issue for me.
As long as I can remember I’ve had sensitive skin.
As a baby, my skin would sometimes break out in a red rash, growing up I’ve seen pictures of a red rash on my face and around my mouth and as a teen I quickly realised that any products I tried started to irritate and cause a breakout of spots on my skin. Because I suffer from allergies and asthma, I also had what I now believe was Keratosis Pilaris on my cheeks and the back of my arms which were a cluster of small raised bumps that looked like a rough-textured rash on my skin. Because of all this I use sensitive skin products and light mineral makeup which don’t aggravate my skin as much.
As I’m now in my twenties, thankfully my skin has really cleared up well which could be due to my age and different hormone levels but also I believe it’s due to my skin routine and the particular products I’ve been using religiously over the past while with the addition of certain serums I use for combating my blemish-prone skin which I’ll come to later.
Currently I’m using a few different products for my sensitive skin that work really well for me and don’t aggravate or irritate my skin. I’ve been using these for over a year and keep rebuying because they work so well for me. These products may not be for everyone, but I’ll give my honest opinion on each and the reason I choose them so it may turn out that a few might suit your skin too.
I’ve tried a lot of different products over the years, different cleansers, toners, lotions to clear my acne. I’ve always done lots of research on each product I try, hoping it would be the one to calm and soothe my irritated skin, some were expensive brands, others were drugstore products from Boots but I didn’t feel any really relieved my skin from the redness in my cheeks, uneven skin tone and blemished skin.
I’ve finally found the products I can trust that improve the texture and appearance of my skin while moisturizing efficiently leaving my skin feeling softer, smoother and healthy looking.
I usually shower or wet my face with warm water as I’ve already cleansed the night before and don’t want to over strip my skin of its natural oils. To moisturize my skin after this, I use Eau Thermale Avene Rich Recovery Cream which calms irritations and the redness in my skin while keeping it hydrated. I then use a sun cream which is usually Avene Mineral Fluid SPF 50 or La Roche-Posay Anthelios Anti-imperfection SPF50+. La Roche Posay do a range of sun creams for sensitive skin with different benefits such as, anti-shine, hydrating and sun intolarance sun creams. During the summer or when it’s particularly sunny, I bring the La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Anti-Shine Mist in my bag to top up on SPF during the day for over my make up.
To cleanse my face and remove my makeup I use either Simple Purifying Cleasing Lotion or Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion with makeup pads and Simple Kind to Skin Eye Makup Remover to remove mascara. When my make up is off and my skin in clean I use Biofresh Toner Rose Water which soothes, calms and hydrates sensitive skin. Rose water products are especially beneifical for those with sensitive skin as it has antioxidants, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties.
As a serum and moistueriser I use Environ Focus Care Clarity+ Sebu-Lac Lotion and Sebu-ACE Oil. I pour a small amount of each liquid on my finger tips, gentley mix the 2 liquids by rubbing them together and then massage them onto my face.
I was reccommended these products by The Skin Clinic when I had a consultation with them last year. I informed them about my sensitive, blemish prone skin and they noted my uneven skin tone. To help combat the signs of breakouts and improve the texture of my skin they advised trying these products. The Sebu-Lac Lotion is a non-oily lotions that improves the skins texture and tone of the skin while combatting the signs of breakouts. The Sebu-ACE Oil, lightly textured non-oily oil helps to control the appearanc of breakouts by nurishing the skin with essential vitamins.
I apply an eye cream every night which is Avene Soothing Eye Contour Cream.
When I have spots or feel a spot appearing on my skin I use ACNAUT Active Lotion on a make-up pad and dab the spot area every night and this works really well for me. The spot is usually reduced in size overnight or within 2-3 days.
These are the products I am using at the minute and I feel they work really well for my sensitive skin but as I said before, not all of these products may be suitable for everyone as we all have different skin types. By using these products I found my foundation applies smoothly and my skin looks brighter and healthier overall. If you have any questions about any of these products, feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org or direct message me on instagram @theallergyact.
If you have any other products that you swear by for sensitive skin please do let me know, as I can add them and your review to a post for others to try because as we all know it’s very difficult to find products that suit and don’t react with our sensitive skin type.
So let’s share our products and experiences to help others who are in similar situations as us!
